SH Group CEO John Magliano retires, will remain as chairman

SH Group Inc., New York, parent company of Syska Hennessy Group, announced the retirement of CEO John V. Magliano, PE, who will remain as chairman of the board until the end of 2008 and serve as a consultant in the upcoming years. Gary Brennen, PE, and Cyrus Izzo, PE, will replace Magliano as co-CEOs of the firm.

SH Group Inc., New York, parent company of Syska Hennessy Group, announced the retirement of CEO John V. Magliano, PE, who will remain as chairman of the board until the end of 2008 and serve as a consultant in the upcoming years. Gary Brennen, PE, and Cyrus Izzo, PE, will replace Magliano as co-CEOs of the firm. An employee of the SH Group since 1970, Magliano’s 38 years with the company provided him with the opportunity to work with such prestigious clients as Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, New York Presbyterian Hospital, the United Nations, U.S. General Services Administration, and the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture.

Previously serving as Syska Hennessy’s chief engineer, Magliano led the company’s technical leadership committee, which focused on the continual improvement of the technical capabilities of the company and its staff. In 1981, Magliano established the engineer in training (EIT) program, which trains engineers who recently graduated from college, in order to immerse them in SH Group’s engineering techniques. A founding member of the ACE Mentor program, a non-profit group that provides high school students with mentoring in the fields of architecture, construction, and engineering, Magliano serves as chairman of the ACE Mentor program of New York board of directors. Magliano has served on a number of committees for the Town of Eastchester, including the Town Zoning Board of Appeals. He also has served as advisor to the Tuckahoe School District Board of Education and the Preston High School Board of Trustees, and is a Trustee of Manhattan College.

Licensed in 12 states as a professional engineer, Magliano is the director of the ACEC and the New York Building Congress. Magliano authored numerous technical articles and served as an adjunct professor at the NYU School. Since 2006, Magliano has been a contributing member of the Consulting-Specifying Engineer editorial advisory board and wrote “Planning for Perfection,” an article about the development and maintenance of the “perfect” office building.
