The National Safety Council honored Schneider Electric North America with the 2011 Green Cross for Safety Medal at a record-breaking fundraising dinner on April 14 at Union Station in Chicago. The dinner, honoring Schneider Electric for its outstanding achievement in workplace and off-the-job safety, was the largest in NSC history, drawing about 800 people representing more than 175 companies. An unprecedented $1.165 million in contributions were raised, which will allow NSC to advance its mission to save an additional 10,000 lives and prevent 1 million injuries by 2014.

Schneider Electric is the first Green Cross for Safety honoree to also win the Council’s Robert W. Campbell Award, which recognizes organizations that demonstrate world-class operational safety performance. NSC President and CEO, Janet Froetscher and Chairman of the Board of Directors Kent McElhattan presented the Green Cross for Safety Medal to Chris Curtis, CEO of Schneider Electric in North America.

“We are pleased to honor Schneider Electric with the Green Cross for Safety Medal,” Froetscher said. “The organization has made safety, health and environment its top priorities, and it has extended these priorities into the communities in which it does business globally and into the lives of its more than 110,000 employees.”

NSC announced Schneider Electric as the 2011 Green Cross for Safety Medal recipient in October 2010. Past recipients of the medal include Exelon Nuclear, FirstGroup, Delta Air Lines, UPS, DuPont, Liberty Mutual Group, Chrysler Group of DaimlerChrysler, Kenny Construction Company, Ryder System Inc., Intel Corporation and AK Steel.
