RCD Launches Database of Monthly Construction Activity

Reed Construction Data, Atlanta, a provider of construction information products and services, recently released its Reed Construction Starts product line, produced in partnership with Property and Portfolio Research (PPR), an independent provider of real estate research, portfolio strategy and risk management advisory services.

Reed Construction Starts reports on monthly construction activity in square footage and value figures, measuring growth rates year-to-year and month-to-month. The data is reported on a U.S. county-level basis and covers all major construction property types, providing detailed analysis of market trends and what they mean to the construction industry. The product is available to customers through an interactive web-based data tool.

The development and launch of Reed Construction Starts was led by a team of industry experts including George Manthous, director of business development at PPR, and Brian Hare, director of analytic sales at RCD’s business unit RS Means. The product line will be supported by the national sales organization under Dean Paulson and Craig Fuss.

“RCD is pleased to provide this service to our customers and the industry overall,” said Michael Catalonello, COO. “Until now, the industry has had very limited sources of this information and often paid a premium to obtain it. Working with PPR, we have been able to leverage the enormous value of our comprehensive project news database to provide clients detailed and relevant market data at a competitive price.”

“From the beginning our strategic partnership with RCD has been about creating value for our respective customers,” said George Manthous of PPR.“ Reed Construction Starts provides RCD clients the market measurement tools they need to compete more effectively in the construction industry. Reed Construction Starts complements RCD’s existing offering of project news and plans and specifications with a detailed measure of construction activity.”

Reed Construction Starts is the third jointly produced product since RCD and PPR announced a strategic partnership in January 2005. The first, ConstructionTrak, combines RCD’s project news and construction cost information with PPR’s analysis of local markets. The second, Reed Market Fundamentals, reports on commercial construction activity with written analysis for the nation’s top 54 metropolitan markets.
