Rapid Projected Growth for Electronic/Fiber-Optic Connectors

At $622.3 million in 2000, global market consumption for electronic and fiber-optic connectors used in local area networks (LAN) and private data networks is projected to grow 13.3 percent per year, reaching $1.16 billion by 2005.

At $622.3 million in 2000, global market consumption for electronic and fiber-optic connectors used in local area networks (LAN) and private data networks is projected to grow 13.3 percent per year, reaching $1.16 billion by 2005. The forecast, submitted by the San Mateo,Calif.-based ElectroniCast, also predicts that by 2010 the market will surpass $2.8 billion.

"North American consumption will be driven by the continuing trend to higher data rate input/output per machine, growing complexity and increasing node counts of LANs," said ElectroniCast Senior Research Analyst Peter T. Jewett. "The fastest growth in LAN/premises private data network interconnect cable consumption will occur in South America and the rest of the world regions stimulated by favorable national economic policies and the trend toward higher network bandwidth requirements."

Currently, the North American market accounts for 63 percent of global consumption, followed by 23 percent in Europe.
