Industry Roundup: Philanthropy, Partnerships and Rewards


The National Assn. of Electrical Distributors has announced several major contributions in recent months from industry suppliers to the NAED Education & Research Foundation: GE Consumer & Industrial, Louisville, Ky., has made a $500,000 commitment; Legrand North America, Hartford, Ct., has contributed $250,000 on behalf of all its businesses; Osram Sylvania, Danvers, Mass., has given a $250,000 contribution; and Siemens Energy and Automation, Alpharetta, Ga., has pledged a$250,000 commitment

In other philanthropy news, Honeywell, Minneapolis, has donated touch-screen programmable thermostats to 22 Rebuilding Together projects, a program that revitalizes homes across the United States. And Lochinvar , Lebanon, Tenn., has donated $3,000 to the March of Dimes. The company has been a corporate level sponsor for the past seven years.

• S&C Electric, Chicago, has partnered with UPS Systems of Hungerford to be its “power quality partner” in the UK. UPS Systems was selected from several potential candidates due to its strong market presence and its ability to provide technical solutions.

Lowell, Mass.-based Thermo Electron Corporation’s Compliance Test Solutions business (formerly Thermo KeyTek) was named a 2005 Northeast Shingo Prize Award recipient for Excellence in Manufacturing for the Northeast region.

• TAS Ltd., Houston, Texas, which provides modular energy solutions for the power, process and HVAC industries, has been honored with the Robert A. Mosbacher Sr. Award for excellence in international business by the Greater Houston Partnership.

• Wright Line, Worcester, Mass., has teamed up with Virginia-based PDI. The former manufacturers consoles, electronic and server enclosures and furniture for data and network operations. PDI is a provider of power distribution equipment.

• York International, York, Pa., is a recent winner of a 2005 Climate Protection Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its energy-saving chiller technology. York was also recognized as an HVAC partner by McDonald’s Corporation, after McDonald’s won a Climate Protection Award for its leadership, along with the Coca-Cola Co. and Unilever, in the area of alternative refrigerants.
