IMTS 2012: Okuma demonstrates machining center, OSP

Okuma had open demonstrations for 15 of their machines and motors, with their 5-axis machining center, the MU-10000H, as the centerpiece of their presentation.


Okuma showed off their 5-axis horizontal high-speed machining center, the MU-10000H, to kick off their presentation at IMTS 2012 in Chicago, Illinois. 

“The theme for IMTS 2012 is ‘go beyond,’” Okuma President and COO Jim King said. 

The MU-10000H, described as the world’s largest 5-axis horizontal machining center, is built with a trunnion table with a 1-meter square pallet and has a maximum work piece weight capacity of 5,500 pounds and a work piece size capacity of 59 in. diameter.

Okuma also had 13 OSP demonstration stations designed for CNC control to allow users a first-hand impression of how the machines operated and how easy they were.

“Our OSP is an open architect, an open user system, so third-party users from our clients all over the world can use the system to maximize their own benefit,” King said.

Courtesy: Chris Vavra, CFOkuma, which has over 8,000 double-column machines installed throughout the world, has used IMTS as a showcase for the variety of motors and drives that they produce. 

“The breadth of equipment we have here is just staggering,” Okuma marketing manager Julie Murphy said. “We have everything from motors to grinders, which most people don’t realize we make, so this is a good chance for us to demonstrate our market variety.” 

Eight of the 15 machines, including the MU-10000H, are new and will be on display during the IMTS show.
