IEEE hosts engineering contest

Combining science, engineering, and creativity, the IEEE is asking people to create an invention that makes life easier, record it in use, and post the video on their website.

As a celebration of their 125th anniversary, IEEE has

created the Engineering Your World contest. Combining science, engineering, and

creativity, the contest asks people to create a piece of technology that makes a

personal space, such as a dorm, apartment, car, or office, more livable or

convenient. Each entrant will record their creation making life easier and post

the video on the IEEE Web site .

The videos and inventions can be funny or serious, contemporary

or futuristic, as long as they work. IEE even gives some examples of useful

inventions, such as the manikin and computer audio combination that filled in

for a sick student in the film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."

Each video should be no longer than two minutes and either

posted to YouTube or sent directly to the IEEE. The contest begins on May 13

and runs through August 7, with the judging based equally on if the invention makes

a space more livable and creativity. The grand prize is $500.
