A green construction code is in the works and will be completed by April 2010, announced International Code Council (ICC) CEO Richard Weiland on June 29, according to a story by Talk Radio News Service . The "Safe, Sustainable, and by the Book" International Green Construction Code (IGCC) will help measure sustainable building development, construction, and use.
When implemented, the IGCC will also aid in reducing carbon emissions from buildings, according to AIA CEO Christine McEntee.
"We are encouraged by the desire of our government and many across the United States and around the world to move forward in ways that will acknowledge how design, engineering, construction management, and enforcement can create a greener America and a greener globe," said Weiland.
