Event focuses on net-zero buildings

ASHRAE's "Countdown to a Sustainable Energy Future ... Net-Zero and Beyond" conference--scheduled March 29-30 in San Francisco--will tackle the role of policy, regulation, and engineering of net-zero structures.

One aim of ASHRAE’s upcoming conference on net-zero buildings is to demonstrate to the construction industry just how appealing and market-viable the structures can be.

ASHRAE’s “ Countdown to a Sustainable Energy Future ... Net-Zero and Beyond ”d the remaining energy use comes from renewable sources, like solar panels or wind turbines incorporated into the facility itself.

The conference will feature discussion of the role of policy and regulatory involvement in the area. For example, California recently announced its goal to have all new residential developments net-zero-energy by 2020, and new commercial developments net-zero by 2030. In addition, the conference aims to share application knowledge for the various aspects of net-zero-energy buildings in both residential and non-residential buildings. It will include building science, energy efficiency in HVAC, lighting and appliances, and renewable energy sources applied to buildings.
