Ethernet converters for manufacturing, processing, automation applications
Belden has added four Perle System IOLAN DS Serial Ethernet Converters to the Hirschmann product line featuring fanless cooling, suitable for discrete manufacturing, processing operations, power generation/distribution and building automation.
Belden announced the addition of four Perle System IOLAN DS Serial Ethernet Converters to the Hirschmann product line. The Converters are easy to configure through the Perle Device Manager. The Perle Device Manager enables the connection of end devices to Ethernet networks. The Converters feature robust metal housings and fanless cooling while offering a range of features and benefits to suit applications such as discrete manufacturing, processing operations, power generation/distribution and building automation.
All IOLAN DS Serial Converters feature a minimum of one Ethernet port, software-selectable RS 232/422/485 serial interfaces, and reportedly meet stringent IEC safety (IEC 60950-1) and EMC (EN 61000) standards. They support various protocols for serial data transmission, including MODBUS TCP Gateway, Raw Serial Data over UTP, IPv4 and IPv6.
The IOLAN DS Ethernet Converter Series is comprised of four types:
IOLAN DS1 T
This compact 3.58"h x 3.50"w x .94"d device meets the requirements of the IP40 protection standard and includes a serial DB9M interface as well as a Fast Ethernet port with RJ45 connection. It is designed for a temperature range of -40oF to +158oF and can be mounted directly on a wall or DIN rail using an (optional) adapter. The unit’s power is supplied via a terminal block and ranges from 9 to 30 Vdc.
IOLAN SDS4 HL
Approved for use in Ex Zone 2, according to Belden, this device features an extensive range of security functions such as RADIUS authentication, SNMPv3 and IPSec VPN Gateway. It includes four serial interfaces for RJ45 ports. It operates in temperatures ranging from -40oF to +158oF and a special conformal coating on the unit’s PCBs provide special protection against condensation. The device measures 4.45"h x 3.19"w x l.10"d.
IOLAN SDS3 M
This device has three serial RJ45 interfaces and is equipped with a V.92/V.90 modem that enables the converter to be connected to wide area networks. It is designed for use in temperatures ranging from 32oF to +131oF and it measures 3.58"h x 3.50"w x .94"d.
IOLAN SDS16C HV
Built for use in switch cabinets (with a 19"1U housing), this IP30 converter with 16 serial RJ45 interfaces and two RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet ports can be used where extreme operating conditions are found, such as transformer stations in the electricity industry. It offers high vibration resistance, extensive resistance to magnetic fields and electrostatic discharges (IEC 61850-3, IEEE 1613), as well as an 88-300 V dc/85-265 V ac power supply unit. It also complies with the NEC CIP security standard.
According to Bill Wotruba, Belden’s Director of Network and Connectivity Products, "This partnership with the industry’s premier serial and I/O connectivity systems supplier, Perle Systems, not only gives Belden a new capability in serial-to-Ethernet conversion for any number of applications, but it enables us to provide complete, end-to-end Ethernet system products and support."
