Energy efficiency building guide available online

ASHRAE and several organizations, in an effort to encourage energy efficient design in a range of building types, have made the Advanced Energy Design Guide series available free online.

ASHRAE and several organizations, in an effort to encourage energy efficient design in a range of building types, have made the Advanced Energy Design Guide series available free online. Electronic versions of the Advanced Energy Design Guides for K-12 School Buildings, along with guides on small office and small retail buildings are downloadable at www.ashrae.org/freeaedg .


The free distribution of the guide will educate the marketplace on how to build energy-efficient buildings that use significantly less energy than those built to the minimum code requirements. The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) supports the electronic distribution of the guide in order to ensure its widespread availability. The K-12 guide was sent to nearly 14,000 school systems around the country to help with the design of energy-efficient schools and to produce a more conducive learning environment.

The guides offer practical design solutions that are commercially available and capable of achieving a 30% energy savings in comparison to buildings that meet the minimum energy efficiency requirements of Standard 90.1-1999. ASHRAE’s partnering organizations include the AIA , IESNA , USGBC , and the DOE .
