An RKS research project, in which 831 energy decision-makers in eight U.S. industries were interviewed, found that 34 percent of those surveyed employ on-site generation. Other highlights of the survey are:

  • Percent of respondents who have purchased insurance to protect against power-outage-caused business interruptions: 30 .

  • Percent who say their companies have suffered financial losses from power outages: 34 .

  • Percent who say they were interested in generating their own electricity to reduce demand: 58 .

Half either owned or leased backup generating equipment; nearly one quarter are considering expanding or upgrading those installations.
