CxEnergy technical sessions offer AIA-approved education credits

Credits are also available for CxEnergy 2015 attendees via ABIH, ACAC, GBCI, and other certifying bodies.

CxEnergy 2015, the conference dedicated to energy management and building and facilities commissioning, has announced that it has received continuing education approval from the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Eighteen 1-hour conference technical sessions were approved under the LU/HSW category. Ten additional sessions are anticipated to be approved this month.

CxEnergy’s two pre-conference workshops, the 12-hour EMA Energy Management Professional (EMP) seminar and the 5-hour ACG Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA) Workshop, are also AIA approved. CxEnergy takes place April 27 to 30, 2015, in Las Vegas. AIA members are required to satisfy 18 hours of coursework per year for membership renewal, which includes 12 hours of coursework in health, safety, and welfare (HSW) topics. HSW in architecture is anything that relates to the structural integrity or soundness and health impacts of a building or building site. Courses must intend to protect the general public. To be approved under the HSW category, courses must contain at least 75% HSW content. ACG, the lead organization producing CxEnergy, is an Approved Course Provider under the AIA Continuing Education System.

Professionals with U.S. Green Building Council LEED certification from the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) can also obtain certification renewal credits by attending CxEnergy. Although CxEnergy does not have an official course ID number from GBCI, the certifying body for USGBC/LEED allows attendees to claim credits for the CxEnergy conference and/or its pre-conference events using the GBCI self-reporting system. Subject matter germane to LEED certification is generally accepted, which includes virtually everything on the CxEnergy program.

The American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC) requires individuals it certifies to document 20 hours of professional development activity, known as RCs, every 2 years. ACAC has listed CxEnergy on its website for Recertification Credits at Industry Conferences. CxEnergy program content is particularly applicable to those certified by ACAC as Indoor Environmentalists, as well as in the field of IAQ Management.

The American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) bestows the Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) credential. Recertification credits can be earned by attending educational events where the subject matter aligns with the IH Rubrics or is identified on the CIH Exam Blueprint. This includes engineering controls/ventilation control of chemical and physical exposures through engineering measures. Also included are mechanics of airflow, ventilation measurements, design principles, and related calculations. Additional areas may be considered if there is a human health aspect to the content.
