Company extends products for energy management in production

Siemens has announced new software for Simatic controllers to improve energy management


Siemens Industry, Inc. has extended its range of products for energy management in production and has announced that its new Simatic powerrate software Version 4.0, which measures and monitors energy values in production, is now available for Simatic-S7-315 controllers and PC-based solutions using Simatic WinAC RTX 2010.

"Simatic powerrate for WinCC ensures transparency in energy consumption from the infeed to the load, where data energy data can continuously be collected, archived and processed, thus providing end users with exact knowledge of the consumption profile, power supply conditions and areas for potential savings," says Alan Cone, HMI marketing for SiemensIndustry's Industry Automation Division.

Already applicable with the Simatic WinCC visualization system and the Simatic PCS 7 process control system in its existing version, Simatic powerrate now performs energy management tasks in smaller-scale applications. A configuration wizard reportedly relieves users of the more complex planning work, thereby reducing time and costs for end users. System users can choose between the interface default layout or a freely configurable operating screen.

In its latest Version 5.2, the B.Data management tool can also be used with Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7, providing optimization of energy costs and transparency at the management level, from purchasing, through planning to financial controlling. The Oracle license previously included with B.Data is no longer needed and the user benefits from a significantly more economical and simpler licensing model.

  • Modules for energy data acquisition and processing.
  • Faceplates for displaying and processing the energy data.
  • Allocation of the energy data to cost centers using Excel macros.
  • Modules for load management (calculation of trend, limit monitoring, release/inhibit consumers.
  • Faceplates for display of results and configuration of load management.
  • Excel macro for determining the duration line, thus establishingdecision base for load management
