The Continental Automated Building Association (CABA), Ottawa, Canada, and the Canadian government has announced the completion of the Technology Roadmap (TRM) for Intelligent Buildings.

TRM is a collaborative research project between industry and government. Focusing on commercial, institutional and high-rise residential buildings, the project culminated in a final report that examines the various options for building automation.

TRMs are intended as a planning process to assist companies in identifying, selecting and developing technology options. “The TRM represents an excellent example of what can happen when private and public sector stakeholders work together in close cooperation,” says Ronald J. Zimmer, president and CEO of CABA.

The report concludes that while there are a significant number of intelligent building technologies on the market capable of integrating all major systems, lack of knowledge about these systems has meant inadequate implementation. A key recommendation of the report is that industry should develop instrumented reference examples and demonstration projects to showcase the technology.
