Richard Hopkins, PE, LEED AP, 31 Associate, Mechanical Engineer, ccrd Partners, Denver BS Mechanical Engineering, Colorado State University

Hopkins manages MEP project teams, designs projects, and delegates design tasks to peers, junior engineers, and drafting personnel-primarily for hospital and health care greenfield and renovation projects, as well as K-12 education, tenant build-out, and mixed-use high-rise building projects. After earning his mechanical engineering degree, he spent 5 years in Chicago designing higher education, mixed-use, corporate, and health care facilities. In 2011, Hopkins accepted a position as a mechanical engineer at ccrd Partners’ Denver office, where he quickly advanced within the company, becoming an associate in 2014. He is managing entire MEP projects and skillfully leading a team of young engineers and designers from project inception through construction completion. Hopkins has clearly made sustainability a priority in his career. Shortly after arriving at ccrd, he was identified as a sustainability leader and appointed to the company’s energy group, where his aptitude for innovative, sustainable, and energy-efficient designs could be shared with all of the ccrd offices. As a member of this team, Hopkins led the energy modeling effort for the nation’s first USGBC LEED Platinum hospital and first LEED for Healthcare Platinum hospital at the Dell Children’s Hospital campus in Austin, Texas. For the past 2years, the ccrd Denver office has participated in a fundraising effort to raise money for Engineers Without Borders, which provides professional engineering services and monetary support to serve and provide for fundamental human needs such as shelter, clean water, and necessary infrastructure to many struggling communities across the globe.
