In 2013, Scott Hammond became one of the youngest partners in the 50-year history of SMS Engineering. Since his start at SMS, Hammond has contributed to a wide range multidisciplinary planning, design, and construction projects including the Winnipeg International Air Terminal Building and Investors Group Field, home of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Rising to the demand for innovative engineering solutions, Hammond has become a specialist in both dynamic and hydraulic pipe modeling for commercial and institutional building projects. His models are used to design cutting-edge building systems that are accurate and do not incorporate the costly factor of safeties used in the past. Hammond uses his expertise in large steam and high-temperature hydronic system pipe designs to ensure all end products are both safe and cost effective. In 2009, Hammond designed his own version of the Hartman Loop hydraulic model that was able to optimize energy efficiency and operate economics of a chilled water system for a large campus hospital project. Due to Hammond’s 6 years of industry experience working on commercial, health care, and education facilities, he has received national recognition and industry accreditation. In 2012, Hammond received the member-in-training award from the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Manitoba. In 2013, he was granted the Keystone award for excellence for his contributions to the Winnipeg International Airport. Born and raised in Manitoba, Hammond loves partaking in hockey with friends and relaxing at his family cottage by Falcon Lake. When he’s at home he also enjoys doing handiwork around his 90-year-old residence in Winnipeg.
