When self-proclaimed tech nerd Brandon Damas isn’t using his design skills to enhance work projects, he keeps himself busy by tweaking the standard systems of smartphones. It became evident to Damas early in his career that he had a knack for designing mechanical systems when he and his college team took first place at the 2007 worldwide ASHRAE student design competition. Damas launched his career shortly after at ccrd partners, where he was hired to design innovative and complex mechanical systems for large and small health care facilities. Damas created ccrd’s first-ever design of a variable refrigerant flow system for a large for-profit health care group. With this design system, the health care group was able to operate at 25% of the energy costs of their typical design. Damas took his career further by mastering energy modeling, 3-D design programs, U.S. Green Building Council LEED certification of projects, and in-house spreadsheets. By doing so, he helped develop standards and hold training sessions for all the offices nationwide. Those video training sessions are still used by ccrd today. After ccrd, Damas joined HTS in Dallas, where he currently is employed as sales engineer. In this position, Damas works with many engineers, contractors, and owners to design their projects and specify the equipment needed. Damas is involved with ASHRAE locally and serves on the Dallas Chapter Board of Governors as the 2013-2014 secretary. In addition to Damas’ design contributions to HTS, he is known around the office as creator of the firm’s “Take the Leap” annual skydiving event. Apart from office morale-boosting events, Damas is also involved in fundraising and organizing events for different types of cancer research. He spends his time engaging in community events with his wife and newborn baby girl. Damas is also a member of the local MENSA chapter.
