Juan Toro’s experience includes the design of HVAC systems for high-rise luxury residential buildings, hotels, corporate interiors, museums, natatoriums, entertainment venues, and libraries for new and existing facilities located primarily in New York City. Specializing in the innovative design of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems, Toro has been involved in about 15 projects that have or will obtain a LEED certification. He was also the design engineer of a luxury high-rise residential building in New York City, which included absorption air conditioning equipment rather than refrigerant-based equipment. This system minimizes discharges to the environment and uses minimal sources of energy to produce air conditioning. In addition to his work as an associate principal, Toro is an adjunct professor at New York University’s and the Pratt Institute’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies. There, he develops and teaches full-semester courses and one-day seminars to engineers, architects, construction managers, and code officials. Toro manages to balance his work life with his second passion, traveling. He, his wife, and their 1-year-old daughter go to a new city in the U.S. and abroad every year to expand their cultural experience and enjoy the different foods. Some of the countries they have visited include India, Israel, Turkey, Colombia, and China.
