Pete Jefferson, PE, LEED AP, HBDP, 33

Principal, Mechanical Engineer, M.E. GROUP, Denver

University of Nebraska, BS Mechanical Engineering

Jefferson is recognized as an industry leader in net zero energy building designs and is responsible for tripling the size of M.E. GROUP’s Denver office over the past 5 years. He regularly presents and speaks about net zero energy buildings, and he is an advocate for renewable energy use and sustainable, high-performance design. His daily schedule includes an organic, healthy breakfast with his wife and young son followed by design strategy discussions with associates at national and state levels. Within his consulting role with the Colorado Governor’s Energy Office High-Performance Building Program, Jefferson works alongside the design community, building owners, local officials, and communities across the state to solicit input and advice on what works best in their communities to develop high-performance buildings. Leading the design of five net zero projects, Jefferson has provided engineering design excellence and project leadership for some of the nation’s most inspiring, energy-efficient buildings, particularly in the education sector. Currently, Jefferson’s involvement with ASHRAE’s Advanced Energy Design Guidelines is helping to develop specific measures and strategies with a goal of making schools 50% more energy efficient than the minimum code requirements. Outside of work, Jefferson enjoys spending time with his wife and son, mountain biking, camping, and competing in local tennis tournaments.
