Heitman has been involved in the building systems design and construction industry for more than 15 years, and he is known for his selfless devotion, hard work, and leadership that regularly guide his projects above expectations. He provides commissioning and energy consulting services with extensive experience in mechanical and electrical building systems of all types and sizes, technical aptitude, keen organizational skills, and likeable demeanor. Prior to founding Building Energy Sciences in 2008, he was a partner in two consulting engineering firms as a design engineer. His company focuses specifically on building commissioning, energy analysis, and building systems analysis as an independent provider of these services. In addition to duties at his company, he is a faculty associate at the University of West Florida. He has also developed and taught numerous continuing education courses covering commissioning and energy management. Heitman serves as the chairman of the ACG Energy Management Committee, which has recently released a new Energy Management Professional (EMP) certification program, a unique and innovative program that defines a structured process for energy management using the building commissioning process as a core component. He enjoys getting away from it all on multiday backpacking trips to the Smoky Mountains, which often include his wife and two children.
