Kim Sousa, 38

Principal and Director of Marketing and Business Development, RDK Engineers, Andover, Mass.

University of North Carolina-Wilmington, BS Management and Marketing

Sousa has helped shape the expansion and improvement of services at numerous engineering firms during her 16 years of experience as a marketing professional. She is adept at developing business and marketing plans to advance the strategic vision of her employers. Early in her career, she was actively involved in three major firm acquisitions for consulting firm Haley & Aldrich as business development coordinator. Sousa has spearheaded many successful projects to push a firm’s marketing efforts to a new level. As a co-founder and partner at Brierley Assocs., she conceptualized a nationwide book tour and seminar series for a book authored by engineers. She created the Million Dollar Club program for senior leaders at Edwards & Kelcey (now Jacobs Engineering), and she assisted directly with bringing in new clients and doubling the size of the transportation group at S E A Consultants. Sousa was recently named a principal at RDK Engineers, making her the youngest principal to date and the third female principal at the firm. As the director of marketing and business development, she streamlined the department, developed new training programs, implemented a trade show program, and was heavily involved in the planning and execution of a major acquisition. Her RDK Roundtable concept helped the firm obtain visibility and provide learning opportunities for clients. Outside of work, Sousa has been chapter president, board, or committee chair for industry associations such as the Society for Marketing Professional Services, ACEC, ASCE, and Women’s Transportation Seminar. She is currently the Support Group Leader for the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of New England’s Merrimack Valley Chapter and is personally invested in educating the public about the dangers of severe food allergies. Sousa serves her family with the same unfaltering energy and dedication. Whether it’s through the Girl Scouts, scrapbooking, or involvement at school, she always makes time to be with her two daughters, Farrah and Taylor.
