Historically lighting controls have always had a singular responsibility—manage the lights. Additionally they have largely operated over electrical circuitry (a combination of high- and low-voltage wires) that is costly, sometimes complicated, and often difficult to commission and operate. Until now. Using Power over Ethernet (PoE) not only cuts installation and commissioning costs, but—more importantly—opens the door to endless building integration options that build upon the idea of intelligent or high-performance buildings.

Lighting controls have been in place for decades ranging from simple switches to fully integrated solutions that can interface with various building devices for additional capabilities. The implementation of these controls has largely been complex from a design point of view and labor-intensive due to the pulling and rerouting of high- and low-voltage wiring. With all high-technology solutions, evolution occurs and improvements in how to communicate and connect has produced another incredibly efficient means of providing control solutions for lighting. Additionally it offers a platform to continue generating cost savings and improve efficiency continually.

Attendees of this webcast will:

  • Become familiar with the terms Internet of Things (IoT) and Power over Ethernet (PoE), and how they relate to the lighting of building spaces.
  • Learn how the evolution of lighting is leveraging the Ethernet networking in commercial office spaces.
  • Assess why the LED luminaire makes the most sense for PoE applications in lighting.
  • Discover how PoE lighting opens the doors to many operational benefits that affect the bottom line and the safety and comfort of employees.
