2008 ARC Awards: Entries due Aug. 29

Consulting-Specifying Engineer’s Advancing, Reinvigorating, and Cultivating excellence in engineering (ARC Awards)
The ARC Awards honor engineers and firms that have incorporated unique MEP innovations into commercial, institutionaland industrial building projects. They recognize those engineers and firms whose successful designs inspire others to design building systems that utilize new ideas and technologies for superior performance and economy. Winning an ARC Award:
- Increases your firm’s visibility
- Aids in the recruitment and retention of talented engineers
- Showcases your firm’s talent and capabilities
- Attracts clients and new business opportunities.
Click here for the official online 2008 entry form. NOTE: All entries must be submitted using an official entry form. There is a $200 fee. Completed entries are due Aug. 29. The following MUST be submitted for your entry to be valid: A completed online entry form, the $200 fee, photography (2 copies of each photo and all photos on CD), and project description (2 copies). If materials are not submitted, the judges have the right to disqualify your project. Money will not be returned.

Jury and judging criteria:
The judging panel is comprised of Consulting-Specifying Engineer editorial staff, members of CSE’s editorial advisory board, and other engineers and industry experts. Entries will be judged on design of building systems and other defining criteria.
Judges give rate and give points (on a predetermined scale) depending on how well the tactics were implemented, based on the information provided. If judges think the question was not answered—or if the building failed to include certain criteria of the ARC Awards, judges give that section a ranking of “1 point.”
After final scores are tallied, judges have the opportunities to debate the merits of high-ranking projects to determine the Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners in the Renovation and New Construction categories.

How to win:
Tell the “story” of the project.
Put yourself in the judges’ shoes. Ask yourself: Have a made a compelling case for our project? Is there logic to the presentation? Did I make it easy for the judges to grasp our argument?

Consulting-Specifying Engineer’s sixth annual Advancing, Reinvigorating, and Cultivating excellence in engineering (ARC Awards), awarded three projects for new construction and two for renovation/reconstruction. In doing so, the achievements demonstrated by the winning projects stand out in the engineering community.
Renovation:
Gold Winner: Flack + Kurtz Seattle Aquarium
Silver Winner: Cameron Engineering & Associates, LLP for The Business and Research Center at Garden City
New Construction:
Gold Winner: Jorge Ledon Webster for the Standard Refrigeration Co. Inc.
Silver Winner: KJWW Engineering Consultants for Harm A. Weber Academic Center, Judson University
Bronze Winner: EMC Engineers for Kinard Junior High School
