Ken Urbanek, director of engineering at MKK Consulting Engineers Inc., was recently chosen as a speaker for the 2012 Best3 Conference. The event, which will be held in Atlanta in April 2012, is sponsored by the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS).

Urbanek is a licensed professional engineer, LEED AP, and a high performance building design professional. His session is entitled, “Challenges and Failures in Green Building Designs Using Under-floor Air Distribution.” Urbanek is enthusiastic about bringing this topic to a large audience.

“As building system engineers, we respond to loads and conditions of the built environment. At MKK we believe the first step towards net zero energy buildings is to optimize this built environment thus allowing for reduced energy consumption from building systems. This is critical to all design, but especially to under floor air distribution (UFAD) installations which fully integrate the building systems into the built environment,” Urbanek said. “My hope is that sharing my knowledge on UFAD optimization will help provide positive learning to our industry and our quest to achieve the 2030 Challenge.”

For over 50 years, MKK Consulting Engineers Inc. (MKK) has been designing and engineering mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for new construction, renovations, and expansion projects in a variety of markets. MKK now also provides commissioning and energy audits. It serves clients throughout the United States from its headquarters in Greenwood Village, Colo., and branch offices in Billings, Mont., and Cheyenne, Wyo.
