The USGBC recognized seven of its nearly 80 local chapters with its Annual Chapter Awards of Excellence. The four award categories include Advocacy & Influence; Community; Education; and Organizational Excellence . The winner of the Award of Excellence in the Advocacy & Influence category for a small chapter was the Cincinnati Regional Chapter . The winner of the Award of Excellence in the Community large chapter category was the Chicago Chapter for its work on the Urban Open/New Horizons Community Garden project. The winner of the Award of Excellence in the Community small chapter category was the Vermont Green Building Network (VGBN) for leading an innovative Web site project involving the Vermont Green Home Alliance. The James River Green Building Council in central Virginia received the large chapter award for creating and implementing educational programs that present wide-audiences with unique opportunities to get involved, including the "Green Spaces" design competition, LEED workshops and events, Eco-Building Tours and organizational partnerships.
Norwalk, Conn.-based EMCOR Group Inc . announced that its EMCOR Government Services unit has received a facilities and maintenance contract from the Kirtland Air Force Base Medical Clinic in Albuquerque, N.M. Coopersburg, Pa.-based Lutron received the Grand Award, Division VI-Commercial for its entry of the New York Times Building in the 2009 Awards of Excellence competition sponsored by the National Commercial Builders Council (NCBC) of the National Association of Homebuilders.
Berkeley, Calif.-based Scientific Conservation Inc . announced a strategic alliance with Natural Logic Inc . The companies will offer joint customers a comprehensive and measurable sustainability plan that incorporates Scientific Conservation's SCIwatch with Natural Logic's value added advisory services that leverage business process automation software.
Raleigh, N.C.-based Hipp Engineering & Consulting Inc . received an engineering excellence award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of North Carolina for their work on the Central Utilities Building (CUB) project at Eisai Inc.'s Research Triangle Park campus.
