On December 7th, U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu will participate in the New Millenium Nuclear Summit along with White House Advisor Carol Browner, Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Chairman Greg Jaczko, and members of the U.S. Congress as well as members of industry, labor and non-governmental organizations. The forum on the future of nuclear energy in the United States is being hosted by Third Way and the Idaho National Lab.  U.S. Senators Tom Carper and George V. Voinovich are honorary co-chairs of the event.

The New Millennium Nuclear Energy Summit is a bipartisan forum on the future of nuclear energy in the United States. Despite the deep divisions in Washington over energy issues, many on both sides agree that nuclear energy must play a role in the nation’s energy and economic future. The summit will provide a forum to start developing broader consensus on the future of nuclear energy in the United States and determining the steps needed to revive the nation’s nuclear energy industry.
