In an effort to further raise the level of professionalism among design-build practitioners, the Washington, D.C.-based Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) and the Design-Build Education and Research Foundation have started up the Designated Design-Build Professional program.

Through this program—which requires that participants complete DBIA courses, demonstrate design-build experience and complete a written exam—professionals can earn recognition as a design-build professional and the right to display DBIA after their name.

To get the program going, DBIA will be awarding charter memberships to candidates demonstrating DBIA leadership and experience on design-build projects, meanwhile waiving the written exam and some DBIA course requirements.
