Weekly merger, acquisition, deal update: July 13

This week Morrissey Goodale tracked three domestic deals and one international merger. This brings the total year-to-date deal count in the United States to 92, right in in line with where we were this time last year. After being down more than 15% after the first quarter, there has been a distinct uptick in domestic deal-making activity in Q2. Total global deal count for the year is now 174, off some 7% from the same period last year. Watch out for our review of all of the industry M&A stats and trends for the first half of the year in next week's update.

Leading global professional services organization Ernst & Young's U.S. Transaction Advisory Services practice (New York, NY) acquired Jeffrey A. Parker & Associates (JPA)(Philadelphia, PA), a leading financial advisory firm specializing in infrastructure projects and initiatives, including public-private partnerships (PPP) for highways, mass transit and intermodal facilities.  Since 1981, JPA has assisted numerous domestic governments and authorities in developing billions of dollars in infrastructure and has worked on a number of high profile projects in the U.S.  Link to details

Full-service architecture and engineering firm GMB (Holland, MI) acquired Visbeen Associates (Grand Rapids, MI), a national architecture firm specializing in the provision of architecture and interior design services for the residential and retail markets.  Each firm will retain their separate identities, but Visbeen Associates will operate under a new name, Visbeen Architects.  Link to details

Multi-discipline engineering and environmental services firm Ruggiano Engineering (St. Albans, VT) merged with multi-discipline engineering firm Llewellyn-Howley (South Burlington, VT).  Both firms have extensive experience in multiple sectors including environmental engineering, land use planning, large scale development projects, permitting, transportation, municipal water and wastewater facilities design, building rehabilitation and community development.  Link to details

Multi-discipline engineering firm Meinhardt Australia (Melbourne, Australia) acquired Bradlees Civil Consulting (Queensland, Australia), a land development consultancy that operates across a range of land development disciplines including engineering input to conceptual planning, feasibility studies, engineering design of residential communities, canals, lakes, commercial developments, and urban infrastructure.  Link to details

In an interesting note (though not considered a deal for the purposes of this update), engineering consulting and design firm Bury+Partners (Austin, TX) has teamed with former Austin Assistant City Manager Rudy Garza to create the firm GarzaBury.  The new firm will pursue engineering contracts earmarked for minority- and woman-owned businesses, though plans are to reach beyond those designations as well.  Rudy Garza owns 51-percent of the firm, with Bury+Partners controlling the balance.  Link to details
