Ring-shaped neodymium magnets of alternating polarity line the length of the output shaft, which is the motor's only moving part. The cylindrical stator—also composed of rings (with teeth and slots)—fits around the shaft, producing smooth electromagnetic interaction over the shaft's surface. Motor position and force are programmable. Six standard models based on 3-phase brushless dc motor technology are available with a peak force of 1,125 lb, and stroke lengths of 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 18 in. Pricing starts at $3,800 for one unit.
