Study reveals pros, cons of nanotech-enhanced building materials' use.


A recent article from Sify featured research highlighting the potentially dangerous environmental and health risks of nanomaterials in the construction industry after being disposed of improperly.

Researchers, from Rice University, cited many potential applications that could make nanomaterials most useful in the construction industry. They include fire-resistant materials and the strengthening of steel and concrete. But the researchers also cited that "in some cases, the very properties that make the nanomaterials useful can cause potential problems if the material is not disposed of properly." For example, it could endanger bacteria found to be beneficial to the environment.
