ESD promotes VPs

Environmental Systems Design Inc. (ESD) has promoted Mike Kuppinger and Mehdi Jalayerian from senior vice presidents to executive vice presidents.
Kuppinger is the founding principal and is responsible for managing ESD’s communications technology and mission critical facilities groups. He also manages the firm’s health, science, and institutional division. Prior to joining ESD, he gained experience in the engineering, design, and construction of critical installations as a senior engineer with a major computer equipment provider.
A founder and past president of the 7x24 Exchange Chicago chapter, Kuppinger has been a guest speaker on data center technology at industry events worldwide. A graduate of Iowa State University with a bachelor’s of science in electrical engineering, he is a licensed professional engineer in the states of Illinois, New York, and North Carolina. He is a member of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and has several communications and information technology (IT) certifications.
Jalayerian leads ESD’s international and commercial project groups, responsible for large-scale high-rise and super-tall buildings, high-performance buildings, assembly (theater) projects, convention/hotel facilities, central cooling/heating/electric plants, and educational/government projects in the U.S. and abroad. He also manages ESD’s office in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., and oversees the firm’s alliance office in Saudi Arabia.
A licensed professional engineer in Arizona, Illinois, Maryland, and Virginia and a LEED accredited professional, Jalayerian holds a master’s of science and bachelor’s of science in mechanical engineering from the University of Kansas. He serves on the Chicago Committee on High-Rise Buildings and is a member of American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE); National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE); Pi Tau Sigma National Mechanical Engineering Honorary Society; and Tau Beta Pi National Mechanical Engineering Society, Life Member.
