Registration is open for AME's Lean Summit in Atlanta, which is focused on the theme of leadership for the August 2013 conference

Registration for the Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME) Atlanta 2013 Lean Summit, themed “It’s All About Leadership,” is now open. Hosted Aug. 26-29 at the Atlanta Airport Marriott, the event will bring together leaders in lean manufacturing to share cutting-edge techniques and personal insights on achieving and sustaining excellence. Keynote speakers, plant tours and workshops will reinforce the focus on the value of leadership.

“This is an important summit for lean leaders who want to connect with fellow practitioners who have walked the path they’re on to great success,” said Larry Fast, team leader of the event. “Attendees will leave with new strategies that can be implemented in their own plant, as well as a larger, more diverse network of passionate advocates and mentors. The benefits of attending an AME event are many, but probably the most rewarding ones are personal.”

The Atlanta location was carefully selected to accommodate AME’s members, as it is the convenient epicenter of three southern states and easily accessible by plane. Nearly 80 percent of the United States’ population is within a two-hour flight of Atlanta. The summit is a short ride from the airport and a complimentary shuttle is available.

“Our event is specifically designed to provide a focused experience for attendees in the most convenient manner possible,” Fast said.

The summit kicks off Aug. 26 with an evening reception. Subsequent days are packed with 10 plant tours, four insightful keynote addresses, six educational seminars and a plethora of networking opportunities.

There are many exciting gemba walks from which to choose. Participants will have the option to attend multiple tours of facilities such as Power Partners, Acuity Brands, Sunny Delight Beverages Co., Milliken, The Clorox Company and KIA Motors, all of which are award-winning facilities. Other confirmed tours include TOTO USA, ZEP and Philips Respironics.

Workshops

AME is pleased to present sessions for participants at every stage in their lean journey. Sessions include Leading the Lean Revolution/Hoshin Kanri Planning, Toyota Kata, Complex Multi-tiered Supply Chain Flow, People-Powered Lean, Lean and Safe! and Accounting in a Lean Environment.

Keynote speakers

Art Byrne, author of “The Lean Turnaround: How Business Leaders Use Lean Principles to Create Value and Transform Their Company,” will speak directly to the topic “Lean Turnaround.”

Joe Barto, a retired Army Lt. Colonel with his own consulting business, Training Modernization Group, TMG, Inc., will speak on the topic of “AME Vet Friendly.”

Luke Faulstick, Co-Owner, President and CEO of PPI, the parent company Power Partners based in Athens, Ga., will speak about “Lean Deployment & AME.”

Larry Crull, manager of lean operations for FedEx Express, will discuss how FedEx Express is creating a lean culture in a unique service environment.

Discounts are available for AME members, attendees from tour host companies, members of the Georgia Tech Consortium and companies with five or more attendees. Group hotel rates are only available through Aug. 19 when referencing the AME Southeast Room Block.
