Engineering challenges and solutions:


Incorporating fuel cell design (UTC Purecell 400 KW) into the store, taking the store off the electrical grid, providing as much as 90+% of the electricity requirements and as much as 70% of the facility space heating requirements through the Fuel Cell.


Solutions:

 

Collaborating with Stop & Shop’s engineer, utilizing the fuel cell to power refrigeration and essential power loads and utilizing the waste heat (by-product of the fuel cell) for the hot water to provide hydronic heating and cooling (absorption chiller).
