Project Profile: Maynard Holbrook Jackson Jr. International Terminal

Firm name: Sebesta Blomberg

Project building name and location: Maynard Holbrook Jackson Jr. International Terminal, Atlanta, Ga.

Type of building and type of project: Airport Terminal Building, New Construction

Project completion date and project duration: 2012

Engineering challenges and solutions:

Challenge #1: Since this is a CMR project, one of the biggest challenges at MHJIT has been working with multiple contractors. Several of the HVAC and Electrical specifications were not incorporated into their bid documents.

Solution #1: Our solution to this challenge was adding a no-cost change order to their contract and then creating an FTP site to review and download documents. We would download our commissioning testing scripts and the contractor would be able to review, comment and download back to the FTP site so we could incorporate and begin testing.

Challenge #2: Project schedule is a secondary challenge in the project.

Solution #2: Since this is a CMR project, the schedule never seemed to address every contractor’s time frame, as well as monitor and create a commissioning schedule into the project schedule that would include all testing and re-testing for all the contractors.
