Engineering challenges and solutions:
MKK provided design and construction services for the development of a new 33 acre site for the Denver Public Works Department. Phase One construction included a 39,000 SF fleet maintenance building, a 29,000 SF office/warehouse, a13,000 SF vehicle storage facility, and a 2,700 SF fuel wash garage with fueling islands.
It also incorporated a magnesium chloride tank farm, and a sand/salt dome. The challenge for the mechanical and electrical system designs for the Fleet Maintenance building and the Office/Warehouse building was to achieve LEED New Construction Gold Certification for each building. Energy conserving systems include the use of energy recovery units with direct/indirect evaporative cooling, water conserving plumbing fixtures, energy efficient lights and daylighting/lighting controls.
