Steve Mumm’s colleagues say his enthusiasm and exuberance at work are an inspiration to those around him. Not only does he inspire the young staff members with his positive energy and optimism, but he also inspires many of the firm’s clients. Mumm’s experience includes the design of air handling units and ductwork distribution, plumbing, energy recovery, and piping systems for education, health care, commercial, and government facilities. He has contributed to two ASHRAE award-winning projects over the past few years, the most recent being the Aurora Medical Center in Grafton, Wis. The 525,000-sq-ft hospital had a budget of $150 million and featured a 2,230-ton chiller plant with energy recovery and a 1,200 BHP boiler plant, and 4,000 kW of emergency generators. Mumm also co-authored ASHRAE’s “Advanced Energy Design Guide (AEDG) for Large Hospitals” in hopes that the publication would provide strategies for reducing energy by as much as 50% more than the organization’s current minimum requirements. Outside of work, Mumm has volunteered to speak at the Wisconsin Healthcare Engineering Assn. meetings, where he helped educate Wisconsin’s health care organizations about how upcoming code changes would impact their facilities. He enjoys getting outdoors in his canoe, on his cross-country skis, or on the golf course. He also enjoys trying local craft breweries around Madison while cheering on his beloved Packers and Brewers.
