Ask the experts! Every month, we ask a distinguished panel of experts for information about how to best solve your problems, challenges, and new engineering issues. Our M/E Roundtable discussion asks a variety of questions on a topic, and then has the experts provide details about how to handle the challenge. We’ll ask the experts your questions, and whenever appropriate, print them in the magazine and post them here. Click here to talkback.

3. Case study: going with the counterflow
Faced with an aging chiller plant that cost too much to maintain and too much to operate, a hospital needed new equipment to serve the facility cost-effectively and meet its requirements for the next 25 to 50 years. A cost analysis of several different systems provided the answer: dual-compressor centrifugal chillers arranged in series counterflow.
