The U.S. Dept. of Energy announced that it will invest up to $13.7 million over the next three years in 11 projects run by nine universities that will develop advanced solar photovoltaic manufacturing processes and products.

4. IEEE and NFPA collaborate on arc flash initiative
The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and the National Fire Protection Assn. have undertaken a joint research project to expand the knowledge of electric arc phenomena. Schneider Electric announced a $500,000 contribution to the effort.
