2. DOE, EPRI team up on energy efficiency
The Dept. of Energy and the Electric Power Research Institute signed a memorandum of understanding in early March to closely coordinate their research, development, and deployment of energy-efficient technologies. The MOU outlines a plan to use energy-efficiency and electric energy demand response programs to help meet the nation's electrical needs..

3. High-performing buildings standard open for second public review
A proposed standard that will essentially define high-performing buildings in code-intended language is one step closer to completion. Proposed ASHRAE Standard 189.1, "Standard for the Design of High-Performance Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings," is now open for its second public review.

9. A green insurance plan
Lexington Insurance Co., Boston, has introduced Upgrade to Green Commercial, an insurance plan that allows for the rebuilding of sites with green construction practices. The insurance company will cover the expenses of sustainable building practices and other eco-friendly materials, along with paying the costs of recycling during reconstruction and at the time of loss.
