U.S. Army gives $3.5 million to pre-college engineering camps for minorities 05/08/2008
The U.S. Army Research Office supports a series of pre-college engineering summer camps held at nine universities across the country to foster an interest in engineering among high school students. The program, UNITE, serves minority populations by helping students prepare for engineering careers at 4- to 8-week summer camps that are structured around academic courses and hands-on activities.

Purdue supercomputer unboxed and built by lunch 05/08/2008
The supercomputer is made up of 812 Dell servers and is capable of performing 60 trillion operations per second. The supercomputer ranks in the top 40 of the world's most powerful supercomputers, and is the largest supercomputer on a Big Ten campus that is not a part of a national center.
