Staff -- Consulting-Specifying Engineer, 4/1/2007

• Lawrence Berkeley National Lab researchers are working with industry experts to develop technologies to make electronic networks—for the Internet, consumer electronics or both—more energy-efficient. They also are developing specifications and information programs to speed the adoption of energy-efficient technologies in the marketplace.

• The U.S. EPA and Dept. of Energy presented the 2007 Energy Star Awards last month to more than 80 businesses and organizations for outstanding accomplishments in reducing greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency. This year’s winners, chosen from the 9,000-plus participating partners, include The Home Depot, PepsiCo, McDonalds, Food Lion, Ford Motor Company, Marriott International Inc., Astoria Homes and 3M.

• Five proposed addenda will be considered for ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.1, Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality, which sets minimum ventilation rates and other requirements for commercial and institutional buildings. The proposed addenda include additional air cleaning requirements and are open for public review until April 30.
