Staff -- Consulting-Specifying Engineer, 1/1/2007

• ASHRAE has received a $510,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to provide guidance for designing and building healthier buildings with effective operation and maintenance programs that reduce exposure to toxics and asthma/allergy triggers.

• The search is on for the Portland, Ore., office property with the best energy-efficiency rating. The challenge aims to identify the most energy-efficient office building in the Portland market and learn how each property can reduce its cost per square foot.

• The International Code Council will move its world headquarters to the heart of Washington, D.C., and into a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified building.

• According to the “2007 AEC Industry Outlook: Strategy and Insight for Design & Construction Firms” from Natick, Mass.-based ZweigWhite, health care, higher education and water/wastewater will be among the hottest markets for design and construction firms in 2007.
