Cyber-Security Standards

Staff -- Consulting-Specifying Engineer, 4/1/2005

The Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society's ISA-SP99 committee is strengthening its cyber-security standards.

Following last year's publication of two successful technical reports providing cyber-security guidelines for manufacturing operations, the committee is developing the first of a series of industry standards on the subject. Several entities have provided support, including Microsoft, Siemens, ABB, the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology and the. U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security.

"Users can help mitigate security risks through active participation in standards development, implementing a comprehensive security plan and embracing industry accepted security best practices," said Don Richardson, director, Manufacturing Industry Unit with Microsoft, of his company's support of ISA and its cyber-security standards initiative.
