Air in Motion: Fans, Blowers and AHUs

Systems for moving and controlling air include many more types of equipment than those featured here. In addition to fans, blowers and air-handling units, there are diffusers, louvers, dampers and many more types of components. Presented below is a selection of some of the most recent product offerings from major suppliers in this general category.

External mount fans are suited for situations where remote mounted in-line duct fans aren't allowed, and can be sidewall mounted on the building's exterior. The fans are 100% speed controllable; use permanently lubricated ball bearing motors; and employ an enclosed motor housing to keep out lint and dust. (EXT Series by Continental Fan)

Ventilation system transfers both latent (moisture) energy and sensible (temperature) energy from opposing air streams, heats or cools incoming air and minimizes incoming humidity. The fresh air reduces contaminants smaller than 0.3 microns, while the HEPA filtration removes particles larger than 0.3 microns. (GuardianPlus by Broan-NuTone)

Fan coils are available in horizontal, vertical, stack, ducted or belt-drive models with capacities from 200 to 400 cu. ft. per min. The coils are designed for simple, fast installation and employ low-voltage, digital controls. (AirStream by Carrier)

Plenum fan is designed to reduce low-frequency sound levels in environments such as schools, offices and manufacturing facilities. It is AMCA-licensed for both inlet and outlet sound and air performance. (QEP by Greenheck)

Blower modules contain centrally located blower motors—directly in the air stream. The motor is mounted directly to the housing using the manufacturer's "twist-and-lock" design for ease of maintenance. Ventilation speed is adjustable down to half airflow. The fans are designed for ducted applications where moving air volumes exceed 120,000 CFM with pressure ranges from zero to 7 in. w.g.
