Associations Get a Jump on Election Season

Staff -- Consulting-Specifying Engineer, 8/1/2002

As we near the political election season once again, it is worth noting that many engineering and construction associations have been busy this summer wrapping up their latest round of elections and official appointments.

At its 2002 annual June meeting in Honolulu, for example, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers installed their officers and directors for the upcoming year.

Replacing the past year's ASHRAE president, William Coad, P.E., will be Donald Colliver, Ph.D., P.E., an associate president of the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Other notable appointments for one-year terms include president-elect Richard Rooley, FREng, principal of Rooley Consultants, Stoke Poges, Bucks, England; treasurer Ron Vallort, P.E., president of Ron Vallort and Associates, Oak Brook, Ill.; vice president Kent Peterson, P.E., a principal and chief mechanical engineer for P2S Engineering, Long Beach, Calif.; and vice president Terry Townsend, Ph.D., P.E., president of Townsend Engineering Inc., Chattanooga, Tenn.

Other recent association elections or appointments include:

  • Bob Heinrich, who was named as the next chief executive officer of the International Code Council by their board of directors. Heinrich, the former chief operating officer of the ICC, is also the president of the International Conference of Building Officials.
  • Larry Soehren, vice president of the real-estate firm Kiemle & Hagood Co. in Spokane, Wash., who has been sworn in for a one-year term as the president of the Building Owners & Managers Association (BOMA) International.
  • Arthur Cote, P.E.,, who was promoted by the National Fire Protection Association to the new position of executive vice president, responsible for advising the president on the association's activities and overseeing technical operations. Most recently, Cote was senior vice president of operations and chief engineer at NFPA.
