Generator Rental Follows Price Hike

Staff -- Consulting-Specifying Engineer, 6/1/2001

One quarter of the electricity needed by customers of the Springfield (Ore.) Utility Board (SUB) was to be generated in late winter by 18 diesel generators rented by SUB. It marked the first time SUB ever generated its own electricity, "illustrating how unpredictable the region's energy markets have become and to what lengths some utilities are going to get extra power," said The Register Guard, the newspaper of nearby Eugene.

From Pure Power, Summer 2001.
